The stuff of legends
Koorzen looks to be in a red hot spat of form and if he continues on the course he is on now then he is going to be a force to reckon with next year. With a total of 525 points, he is on course to have a record-breaking season. The RKT-backed driver has been sensational in his rookie year in the Rotax Junior Max class and it just keeps getting better and better.
Come qualifying on Saturday, Koorzen was able to set the benchmark once again and took pole Position with a mega 41.205 lap time.
It was a great effort because the Junior Max and Senior Max classes combined in Cape Town but start the races separately to avoid any upsets. In qualifying, they were all out together and he managed to get P3 overall out of 13 karts on top of that class pole position. Mega effort to beat out some of the Senior Max karts!
Race 1 was a lights-to-flag finish for the youngster that never really looked to be under any pressure. There was one nail-biting moment where a back marker was being lapped which made contact with Koorzen as he was trying to find a way past. This still wasn’t enough to deter him and he crossed the line just short of 2 seconds ahead of 2nd. He also set a lap time good enough to start him from P1 in race 2.
Race 2 was once again smooth sailing as he never lost the lead and finished over 3 seconds ahead of his rivals. His best lap time from race 2 was just a few thousands off the best time so he would be starting Race 3 from P2.
Starting from P2 did little to prevent him from getting to the front as soon as he could. Once he hit that clean air he checked out once again and cruised to yet another 3 second lead over the rest. It was really an impressive display of driving from the talented driver.
Overall he added 105 points to his championship tally and made all but sure to end his rival’s chances of beating him.
It was another perfect weekend winning three from three. Everything went to plan that we set out for the day. Many thanks and well done to my fellow competitors
Reese Koorzen.
With only 2 rounds left the Junior Max championship is all but wrapped up. Another weekend like he had now and he will be the WP Regional Karting Champion for the Junior Max class.
Coming Up
With his skills and abilities really being honed and nurtured by his dad Mark and RKT, we can’t wait to see him back on the National Karting stage where he will no doubt shine.
Next up for Koorzen will be the Round 7 of the WP Karting Regionals. We wish him all the best until then and make sure to visit his social media pages to show your support.
Until next time.
