One of South Africa’s brightest motor racing prospects, aged 12, Reese Koorzen has already achieved what most drivers can only dream of.
The talented youngster has seen success throughout his karting career which started off in the Bambino class, previously known as Cadets.
Known to be incredibly fast and decisive with his overtakes, Koorzen quickly became a threat in the Rotax Micro Max class in 2017, a year in which he also won the Rotax African Open at Zwartkops Raceway.
In 2019, Koorzen was crowned South African Rotax Micro Max Champion and headed off to represent Team South Africa at the illustrious Rotax Grand Finals in Italy.
Locally, he has amassed two Western Province Regional Championships. To be a multiple Regional and National champion at such a tender age speaks volumes for his abilities behind the wheel.
During his short career, Koorzen has had incredible support from GMP’s Mark Williams, and more recently the Roos Kart Team. Both entities have nurtured his raw talent superbly and their support has been pivotal to young Reese’s progress.
Having moved up to the Rotax Junior Max class in 2022 in what was supposed to be a year of learning. Reese ditched adapting to a much bigger and faster kart and went straight to the top of the time sheets. Since making his class debut in February, he has won every Regional race in which he has finished.
Off the track, Reese is a polite and down-to-earth young man, but when the helmet goes on, he turns into a different animal. His racecraft coupled with the perfect combination of aggression and smoothness makes him a huge threat.
“Reese continues to surprise me at every opportunity. A down-to-earth youngster in the pits and a fierce competitor on the track.”

Going into this weekend, Koorzen will look to extend his advantage in the Championship as he gets ever closer to a maiden Junior Max title in his rookie year.
“I feel very confident going into this weekend and I’m eager for three wins.”

Keep an eye on him as he continues to dominate throughout the ranks. His father Mark Koorzen has kept his son grounded and their family-oriented team provides the support system that any young driver needs. They have a massive appreciation for all the support they have received over the years and are always open to new ventures with mutual benefits.
If you are in the Cape, be sure to head on down to Killarney Raceway this weekend for some intense Karting action, and keep an eye out for Koorzen in the Junior Max class, cast your eyes to the front of the pack, as that’s where you will likely find him.
